Shadows Burning

Just as she had blocked the blade, Araminta felt something peirce her in the soulder. SHe turned to see Jenna running away with a spear. She fell to the ground, knowing that she was done for.

Marcus chased after Jenna, weilding a big sword. He cought up with her quickly, and swung the sword towards her head.

(I've got to go, bye)

jenna blocked it and stabbed him, still running.  she didn't know if he was dead, but at least she had slowed him down.  she ran past wren, who was standing on her platform, looking petrified.  jenna could not bring herself to kill her.  "run, you idiot" she hissed.

Iridescence stood watching the other tributes race for supplies. She was hoping people would move in, trying to get thebest things in the center, so that she could grab something without getting killed.

Wren finally came to her senses.  she ran from the bloodbath as fast as she could. 

river stayed in the bloodbath just long enough to grab some supplies. then he ran toward a forested hill behind a group of large victorian houses. 

Marcus dodged Jenna's spear a swung his sword around wildly. Then he headed towards where the other careers were.

Sara crept through the streets of what seemed to be a deserted city.  She climbed the steps of a small gray house and examined the door.  She recognized an alarm, the kind they made in district three.  The other tributes probably wouldn't hear it at the bloodbath, but she disabled it anyway.  Then, she turned the knob.  It was unlocked.   

Dreamer started sprinting towards Wren, grinning and laughing wildly. She reached Wren and stabbed at her with her knife.

Wren managed to dodge the knife. she turned around and ran, opening her mouth to scream, though no sound escaped her lips. she glanced over her shoulder anxiously. She had never been a fast runner.  But as she watched, a figure ran toward Dreamer, so fast he almost seemed to be flying.  Gracefully, he swung his sword, blond hair glinting in the sunlight.  Wren recognized the male tribute from district 10.  She thought his name was Ocean or something like that.  Clumsily, she turned and ran, afraid he would come after her next, but already knowing she couldn't outrun him.  

He did chase her.  Before Wren had even heard him coming, she found herself being slung over his broad shoulder as he raced farther away from the cornocopia.  Wren went limp in his arms.  She was easily the smallest person in the games, even more petite than 12-year-old Sara and Iridescence.  There was no point in struggling.  She wondered why her captor was carrying her away to kill her. 

Dreamer watched the blond boy race off with Wren. She was slightly disappointed that they had escaped. Oh well. She could get them later.

Jay was running in the general direction of the city, listening closely for any footsteps behind him. In his right hand he clutched a long, thick knife, and in his left he had a small purple backpack. Suddenly, he stumbled and sprawled to the ground. He landed on something firm but soft, the thing he had tripped on. It was a body, he realized with repulsion. He felt around on the ground for the backpakc, which he had dropped, and then he heard running footsteps, coming towards him. His mind filled with dread as he struggled to get back onto his feet. The person was almost to him. He pushed himself up, only to slip again in a wet puddle that was surrounding the body. The footsteps came closer, closer, and then stopped a foot away from him, and he knew he was done for. Cloth rustled as the person bent down, and he braced himself for the cold steel. But then a hand grasped his elbow and he was dragged to his feet. An arm went around him and pushed him forwards. He ran, and the person guided him.

Jenna hurried through the city to a forest.  There, she wandered, alert for any sign of danger and cursing herself for not killing Wren when she had the chance.  She would never win the games with that kind of cowardice.  She stumbled upon a cool stream and bent down to drink before climbing a nearby tree to plan her strategy. 

Jonah was still in the bloodbath, fighting for his life against one of the Careers.  He swung his axe strongly, not hesitating with the familiar weapon.  but he was nervous.  he'd never been in battle before. 

Just then, Dreamer noticed a boy with curly brown hair running towards the cornucopia. It was Jonah, the boy from District 7. She giggled and ran towards him. When she was close enough, she crept up behind him and lunged with her knife.

The last thing Jonah felt was deep pain on his back.  He collapsed, shirt soaked with blood.  A cannon shot echoed around the arena.  Another tribute dead.

Just then, Cyrus reached the cornucopia. He grabbed the first things he saw-- a clear plastic bag and a skinny knife, and started to run off. But his foot caught on something lying on the ground and he tripped. His teeth slammed his tongue and he tasted blood. He was trying to stand up when suddenly a dark shadow loomed over him.

"LET ME GO!" Wren screamed.  "shut up" muttered River, putting his hand over her mouth.  she tried to bite him, but he kept his hand firmly in place.  they ran for a long time, only stopping when the sounds of the bloodbath had completely faded away.  River placed Wren on the ground, keeping a tight grip on her arm.  "Wren..." he said.  Wren glared at him her shock and fear had been replaced with anger.  "What are you doing?  Why don't you just kill me?  Why did you even bring me here?" "Wren," he said again, "I'm not going to kill you.  I know you Wren.  I'm surprised you don't remember"  "What are you talking about" Wren snapped, "Of course you're going to kill me." "you're angry, Wren," River said calmly, "but you're not mad at me.  You're mad at the president and the capitol and everyone who thinks it's fun to watch us kill each other.  But we don't have to play their game.  we don't have to follow their rules.  I don't plan on killing anyone in these games.  And the more people we can get on our side, the better chance we have."  Wren raised her eyebrows.  "River...when you said you knew me...?"  "Think, Wren, I know you remember"

Leigh stood over Cyrus with a spear in her hands, staring at him. She knew that this was her chance to rise up in ther games, but she couldn't do it. He was so young. She couldn't kill him.

"Get up." She shouted at him. She saw Marcus, the career from 1, headin in their direction."Come on, get up!" She shouted again, then started running towards the woods. Once she was safely beyond the treeline, she turned back and saw Cyrus's body on the grouynd still, Marcus heading away from it. She turned away into the woods.

Jenna was wandering through the woods when she came across Leigh Odair from district 4.  For a moment, they just stared at each other, then Jenna rushed in with her spear. 

"Wait!" Leigh cried. "Don't attack me, please! We can make an alliance!"

Jenna frowned.  "I work alone," she snarled, still angry with herself for being too weak to kill wren.  She wasn't going to make the same mistake with this girl. That pleading face was not going to change her mind.  All her life, Jenna had been struggling with the soft, girly reputation that came with being the Mayors daughter.  And yet... Katniss Everdeen was a rebellion leader, the toughest of the tough.  people had love her alliance with that little girl Rue.  Maybe joining Leigh would be just the thing to get her more sponsors.  "Fine, I'll join you." Jenna said, lowering her spear.  She told herself she was only doing it to help herself, but really she was glad not to become a murderer yet. 

Leigh was releived, but she still looked at Jenna with caution.

"...So" She said, "What do we do now?"

"We find somewhere to hide, then make a plan." Jenna said, stalking off without checking to make sure Leigh was following her.
