Shadows Burning

Zoe was on her feet as soon as she saw Calixte. "Nariko, wait!" She began to shout, but Vinotri beat her to it. She raced out the door after her friend, ready to pull her back into the cabin.

Nariko was so caught up in the figure that her eyes skipped over a branch laying in her path. As soon as she reached the branch, her socked foot hit it hard. Tripping over it, she fell at the feet of Calixte. A sharp pain went through her foot. She looked back at her foot. Was it supposed to bend that way? She pushed herself to a painful stand, embarrasment washing over her. "Good bye." She mumbled, liimping back toward the cabin.

Zoe was running for Nariko, when suddenly her friend stumbled and fell at Calixte's feet. She rushed to help as Nariko got to her feet. She wsa limping. "Are you okay?" Zoe called.

"I'll give you one guess." Nariko said through gritted teeth. "Please just help me back to the cabin."

Enya hurried after Zoe.  As they entered the cabin, she turned back to watch Calixte.  she was walking quickly away, but turned her head to send a piercing glare at Enya.  Enya shuddered as her friend walked away.

Zoe helped Nariko limp back to the cabin. She wondered what Calixte was doing just then, or about to do. She had obviously been possessed.

"Thanks Zoe." Nariko said as she and her friend made it to the door of the cabin. "Since I was pretty reckless back their, mind telling me exactly who that person was and why they seemed to hate us?"

Zoe looked at Nariko for a while before answering. Then she shook her head. "How could you not have recognized that hair? Nariko, that person back there was Calixte, and she was possessed."

"Well, that just makes me feel even more stupid. But I think I was focusing more on the fact that I was tripping over a branch before I really thought if this was a good idea. Like I said, I'm reckless." Nariko said with a small smile.

Zoe gave a small nod. "Well, before we do anything else, let's get you to the infirmary."

"All right." Nariko sighed.

Zoe set off towards the infirmary, Nariko leaning on her shoulder so as not to put too much pressure on her injured foot.

When Zoe and Nariko reached the infirmary, Nariko had second thoughts. "Hey Zoe, I think I'm okay. Let's go look for Calixte."

"Nariko! If you've broken your leg or something, you can't just go running after Calixte."

"Yes but the nurse is going to ask me all these dumb questions, and it's going to make me look like an idiot!" Nariko protested.

"Well, we can tell her that you fell off your bunk in your sleep or something." Zoe said with astraight face.

"Fine. Let's just get this over with." Nariko sighed.

When they walked into the hospital wing, the nurse looked over curiously. "What happened?" she asked, rushing over.

"Ah, Nariko just fell off her bunk in her sleep." Zoe said, trying to suppress a grin.
